Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 in Cosmetic Products: Helpful or Harmful?
Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 is a hot topic in dermatology and cosmetics, leading many to wonder if the ingredient is safe to use. Tiege Hanley provides a breakdown of what you need to know.
Commercially known as Argireline, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 is a synthetic peptide made from a protein found in Botox. It’s primarily used as an active ingredient in anti-wrinkle and anti-aging creams or serums. It’s designed to reduce wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, and on the forehead and cheeks among other areas. It works in a similar fashion to Botox; however, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 does not need to be injected, which makes it a far more versatile and safer product. The serum is simply applied to the desired area where it enters the skin’s membranes which then limits muscle activity and wrinkling. Like Botox, Argireline tightens the skin and reduces wrinkles caused by smiling, squinting, and other tight movements. Over time, this prevents the skin from forming new wrinkles while giving it time to repair and smooth over any previous wrinkles as well.GOT WRINKLES?
The Benefits of Acetyl Hexapeptide-8
Traditional Botox has become the most recognized wrinkle treatment, but it definitely has its downsides. You’re stuck with the results, whether you like them or not, for at least three months. Plus, you’ll have to head to a clinic, deal with needles, and then follow all of the aftercare recommendations. With Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, you can effectively treat and prevent wrinkles right at home with a lot more control over the outcome. You can incorporate it into your daily skin care regimen for the best results or use it once in a while for a temporary effect. Unlike Botox, this peptide gives you the freedom to use it at your own convenience, and with subtle yet noticeable results, you’ll likely find that you want to use it fairly often! The effects are almost immediate, and you’ll see a clear reduction in deep wrinkles around your eyes, mouth, forehead, and other commonly affected areas. A daily routine works best since the peptide prevents deeper wrinkles from forming over time. Using it is as simple as washing your face, and our products containing Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 have been formulated to fit your exact needs. We currently have three products in our skin care system that utilize this amazing ingredient: our Bedtime Facial Moisturizer, AM/PM Eye Cream and AM/PM Facial Firming Serum.

Acetyl Hexapeptide-8’s Safety and Side Effects
With many well-regarded studies backing its safety and efficiency, you can confidently use Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 without severe side effects or complications. In 2012, the FDA oversaw a study through the NIH Neuroscience IRB which found that the peptide is safe for long-term use and is effective in reducing wrinkles and prolonging the beneficial effects of traditional Botox. Out of 24 patients, only two experienced a mild itching sensation that immediately ceased upon discontinuation of the product. The study also used the same amount of the peptide used in most commercial products (0.005%) and found that it could even be safely used up to ten times that amount. While more studies are currently underway, the vast majority of people can use acetyl hexapeptide-8 in their daily routine without worries. A few select people may experience a slight itching on an exposed area, but this will stop almost immediately after the product has been removed from their daily routine. Other standard safety precautions still stand, and this includes avoiding direct contact with the eyes, swallowing the substance, or using in extreme amounts.
