Commercially known as Argireline, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 is a synthetic peptide made from a protein found in Botox. It works in a similar fashion to Botox; however, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 does not need to be injected, which makes it a far more versatile and safer product. The serum is simply applied to the desired area where it enters the skin’s membranes which then limits muscle activity and wrinkling. Like Botox, Argireline tightens the skin and reduces wrinkles caused by smiling, squinting, and other tight movements. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8’s Safety and Side Effects

In 2012, the FDA oversaw a study through the NIH Neuroscience IRB which found that the peptide is safe for long-term use and is effective in reducing wrinkles and prolonging the beneficial effects of traditional Botox. Out of 24 patients, only two experienced a mild itching sensation that immediately ceased upon discontinuation of the product. The study also used the same amount of the peptide used in most commercial products (0.005%) and found that it could even be safely used up to ten times that amount. While more studies are currently underway, the vast majority of people can use acetyl hexapeptide-8 in their daily routine without worries. A few select people may experience a slight itching on an exposed area, but this will stop almost immediately after the product has been removed from their daily routine. Other standard safety precautions still stand, and this includes avoiding direct contact with the eyes, swallowing the substance, or using in extreme amounts.
